Key terms used in the Abandoned Cart feature


Cart abandoned rate:

The percentage of carts created but not progressed to checkout. This rate indicates how often customers add items to their cart but leave before starting the checkout process.





Checkout abandoned rate:

The percentage of checkouts that were initiated but did not result in a completed order. This metric shows how often customers start the checkout process but leave before finishing their purchase.





Behaviour funnel:

The Behavior Funnel tracks the progression of logged-in and unknown customers through key purchase stages.

  1. Total cart

The total number of carts created.

  1. Cart abandoned

The number of carts that were abandoned, either in the cart drawer or during checkout.

  1. Cart checkout

Number of customers who proceeded from the cart to the checkout page.

  1. Cart paid

The number of carts that successfully completed checkout with payment.

This funnel helps visualize where customers drop off in the journey from adding items to completing an order.



Customer details:

  1. Customer

Displays the customer’s email address. If no email is available, show "Unknown".

  1. Last seen

The timestamp of the customer’s last recorded activity (e.g., adding a product to cart, entering checkout).

  1. Abandon type

Indicates the stage where the customer dropped off:

  • Cart → The customer added products to cart but did not proceed to checkout.
  • Checkout → The customer reached the checkout page but did not complete the purchase.
  • Paid → The customer attempted payment but did not successfully complete the order (e.g., payment failure).
  1. Products

The list of products that were in the customer’s cart at the time of abandonment.

  1. Cart value

The total value of all products listed in Products at the time of abandonment.


Product details

The product details include all the products that are added to cart, no matter if they are in the abandoned carts or are already paid.

  1. Product

The product name according to Shopify data.

  1. Variant

The specific variant of the product (e.g., size, color).

  1. Checkout started

The total number of checkouts that included this product in cart.

  1. Abandon rate

The percentage of sessions where this product is added to cart but the purchase is not completed. This includes both cart abandonment (customer left before starting checkout) and checkout abandonment (customer reached checkout but did not finish the order).

  1. Abandon value

The total cart value associated with all abandoned checkouts/abandoned containing this product.

  1. Price

The unit price of the product (based on the variant selected).

  1. Total quantity

The total number of units of this product that were added to cart, regardless of whether the checkout was eventually completed or abandoned.
